Rodeo · Night 1
Springville
Friday June 5 and Saturday June 6 · 7:00 PM · Springville Fairgrounds
Sixty-four years in Springville. PRCA-sanctioned since '88.
The Rodeo started in 1962 as a fundraising event for Springville's 4th of July committee — two nights at the old county fairgrounds, a borrowed PA, and bleachers hauled in from the high school. It paid for the fireworks that year and never went away.
In 1985, when the city consolidated its summer events into Art City Days, the Rodeo folded in as one of the cornerstone nights and has run inside the festival every June since. PRCA sanctioning came in 1988 — meaning real circuit riders show up on their way through the Mountain West season — but the bones of the night still feel local: mutton bustin' for the 5-to-7s, a kids' calf scramble at intermission, the Springville Lions Club running the concessions like they have for thirty-plus years.
Expect bull riding, barrel racing, bareback, team roping, and the occasional saddle bronc when riders are available. Doors at 5:30, grand entry at 7:00 sharp. Bring a jacket — the canyon wind comes down off the bench around 8 every night.
