About Velour
Twenty years and counting on University Ave.
Velour opened in 2006 in a converted record shop on University Avenue, two blocks from BYU. Owner Corey Fox started it as a no-alcohol all-ages room so the local indie scene — the bands he was already booking out of his apartment — would have somewhere to play.
It worked. Imagine Dragons, Neon Trees, The Aces and The Backseat Lovers all came up through Velour. The room still does what it always did: 200 standing capacity, sightlines from everywhere, a sound rig that punches above the room size, and a clear-eyed booking policy that mixes touring nights with weekly locals-only series.
Vibe-wise it's quiet, attentive, and a little churchy — people listen. You don't talk through opening sets here. The merch table is run by the band themselves. The water is free.
